Neonatal (newborn) Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Exceptional skills plus the highest level of care
There is no substitute for experience.
The birth of a baby is a wonderfully complex process---which offers magnificent mysteries along with unique challenges. In the unlikely event that medical problems arise with your newborn---rest assured your baby will be in the hands of some of the most skilled and experienced medical professionals available.
Many people have never even heard of a NICU (pronounced NICK-you) until they need one! It stands for neonatal (newborn) intensive care unit. Every medical skill and every piece of equipment is specifically scaled, crafted and tailored to care for the tiniest of our patients. Each year, around 500 newborns receive the specialized attention of our NICU.
Preemies
In some cases babies are born prematurely---before reaching their full 40-weeks of growth and development in the warm, peaceful, nurturing and familiar environment inside their mother. Some are born months early; while some are early by only a week or two. In other situations babies are born with one or more medical challenges that need to be addressed immediately. That’s when our NICU team steps in.
